MISSIONAL VALUES

WORK & VOCATION

Work is a gift from God, who created humanity to “fill the earth” and “work and keep it” (Gen. 1:28; 2:7).  This creative, cultural mandate is a significant part of our relationship to God and to one another.  As such, we seek to be faithful stewards of the work God has given us, viewing our work as worship unto God, service for the common good, and integral to living an integrated life in God’s kingdom.

JUSTICE & MERCY

In Micah 6:8, we read, “What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”  The church is called to be a community marked by mercy and justice, fulfilling the great commandment: mercy toward our neighbors in meeting their tangible needs, and justice for our neighbors in addressing the reasons for inequalities.  This has always marked the church from its earliest years, and we want to continue that tradition in our cultural moment.

EVANGELISM & HOSPITALITY

The Gospel is not just for Christians; it’s for all people, in all places, at all times.  The church is anointed by the Spirit to be a faithful witness to the Gospel in all of life, so that all people would taste and see that the Lord is good.  This great commission requires a posture of hospitality and welcome, of stability and courage.  By making room for people and forming deep friendships, the Holy Spirit works through us to present Christ more tangibly to the other.
